Has anyone tried a 40 HP 4 Stroke on a 70's era 13 sport? Will it be too heavy for the boat?

There are some people on here with 40hp honda a mercury both are around the same weight. You should be fine, might a be a bit tail heavy. You could move the battery to the console may help.

Thanks for the info. My boat is a 1975 that has the tall transom and long shaft motor. (Desert Tan Interior). The chart that was referenced in the previous thred seemed to be for the short shaft earlier models.
I want to put a 40 HP Yamaha 4 stroke on it that weighs 214 lbs. Do you think that would be safe?
Thanks

Thanks Joe
My Boat is a long shaft model 13 Sport.
It definately has a smirk. The ID# is BWCC 1422M 75L, Stencil # 2B6575. Is it a 1975 or 1976?
Do you think the Yamaha 40 HP 4 stroke at 214lbs on the boat is an issue because of the recommendation of only 200lbs motor weight (as mentioned in your earlier post) by Whaler? I plan on mounting the battery under the console.

The last 3 digits tells us what year it is, 75 = 1975 and the month it was made. L = July of 1975 as a 1975 year model.
Look at the "Model Year Format" in this list:

Note: no spaces in the HIN 12 digit number.

Hi Joe- Your knowledge of Whalers is a great resource!
I have another Boston Whaler that I can't get any info on. It is a 9' Squall hull stencil 03603 with blue interior. It has no HIN visible.
I have a mast and 2 booms with no hardware or sail. I assume it is a lateen rig.
Do you have any idea what year it is and do you have any info on the sail rigging and hardware needed?
