I'm going to sign the paperwork on a new Honda BF90 next week. I was wondering if anyone here has experience with this motor and boat combo. (17 Outrage I) I found a couple Youtube clips of this repower combination, but they gave very little info as to performance, prop etc. At 359 lbs. I think it should be fine weight wise.

I think the weight will be good. WOT should be 38-40mph.
See Chris's (A Little Madness) post on prop size
here. A good place to start.
I would move the battery to the console if not there already.

Well the motor is installed. The marina that did the work also prop tested the boat and ended up with a 13.25x17 Honda prop. The motor revs 5900 at WOT. The tech who tested it said it ran very well but I'll wait and see. I did take it to local lake to flush out the salt water on the way home (marina is on the ocean) and was amazed at how quite and smooth it runs. I'll report back when I get a few hours on it.

Honda does not make their own propellers so who knows what you have?

Tom I didn't realize Honda doesn't have a house branded prop. I'll take a closer look tonight and find out what they used. I'll try to update my personnel page with photos of the boat and motor if I have time after work.

The prop they used is a Honda prop. Honda is cast into the aluminium hub. On the Honda web site the props are listed as "Solas Honda". I would assume Honda brand props are made by Solas. At any rate I'm going to purchase another prop to have one as a spare. Once I have some performance figures I'll post them and try to get some opinions on a better prop for the main one.

Honda has Honda branded propellers but they do not make them. Honda sells propeller made by Solas, Precision Propeller Industries, Inc. (Yamaha, Turbo and Stiletto brands) and PowerTech! They even used to offer a Mercury propeller, the Laser II, though they dropped that one several years ago.
To Honda's credit, they are very transparent about it. As you note, the Solas props are called Honda Solas, the PPIs, Honda Turbo, etc.

I uploaded a couple of pics of the new Honda motor to my personal page. My son and I took the boat out today to follow Honda's Break in procedure. After a couple hours I was able to open it up on the lake with a slight tail breeze and saw 38.7 GPS MPH at 6000 RPM. This was with two people and 17 gallons of fuel. The Honda is very quiet and has a nice punch in the upper RPM range. VTEC is supposed to kick in above 5000 rpm and you can really feel it. The Baystar hydraulic steering is sooo much better than my old setup it makes the boat handle with ease. I'll report back when I have more time on it.

Bob, looks good.
I had to turn off the last two photos as they were too large.
640x480 is the largest for personal pages.

Sorry Joe, I think I fixed them.
