I just got a new Super Sport 150 with the 60 merc. bigfoot. The standard prop is the black max 13.75 x15. It is turning around 56-5700 rpm's with a top end of about 34.5 on the gps. I need to go to a stainless prop and probably a 14" to get closer to the 6000 rpm level on this engine. I am also considering a 4 bld -- have had great results with 4 bld's on other boats. Need suggestions as t brand and models. Thanks in advance!

If you want a stainles steel Mercury propeller, you have exactly one choice: The 13-1/4" x 14" Vengeance.

Mercury just does not offer much for intermediate gearcase motors. They do make the four blade Trophy Plus, but it would be a lousy fit for your boat and it is only offered down to 17" pitch, way too much for your boat.

Mercury, the world leader in outboard propeller design, must know something, since they clearly do not believe in surfacing/performance propellers for boats that only go 36 MPH with a 4-1/4" gearcase. At these low speeds, the 14" Vengeance is probably no better than the 15" aluminum.

I also note that Boston Whaler tests the boat with the aluminum prop, rather than the Vengeance. I'm sure they have tested both. For boats that only run in the 30's, the Mid-size Black Max props are an amazingly good prop considering the material is aluminum. I use them for long range, 25-32MPH cruising on 3 of my Whalers, and they give good economy and good performance. They are a bargain at less than $100 a piece. When I want hot-rod boating, snappy acceleration, speeds over 40 and higher top end, then I throw on the Laser II's.

At $149 delivered (jacosmarine.com), you might look into Mercury's brand new 4-blade Spitfire aluminum propeller for your application. See mercurymarine.com for info.

Tom & Finnegan thanks for your replies. My boat is set up for fishing with fishing seats,two batteries,19 gal. tank, troll motor etc. I am not disappointed with the current performance but do want to get closer to the max. rec. 6000 rpm's. The current 5600-5700 rpm's is with just me in it. I prefer stainless because of a lot of my fishing is in the marsh and flats down on the coast for speckled trout and redfish. Flats and oyster beds just tear up alum. props. I did see the videos on the spitfire and it was impressive.

For you needs, you might consider the Stiletto Star (aka Turbo Pontoon 1). The Stiletto Advantage would also be a much better propeller than what you have now. Either can be had for $250, delivered with hub kit. You would want the 13" pitch for either model.
