Trying to find engine cowling for 1976 Johnson 40HP EL Seahorse.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Go to the AOMCI website where the public discussion forum is, those cowels are fairly common and you can likely find a good used one through the free classifieds there.

The 1970-1990 evinrude 40-50 hp outboards have a sleeker looking cowl top,
there's a reveal in them,
not flat square slabs like the Johnson's.

If your going to do a repaint and use simple non-stock eBay decals,
I'd consider checking the evinrude style out.
