Sorry, complete neophyte question here.

Is there a drain plug for the engine oil reservoir for my 1998 40 hp Mercury 2-stroke ELPTO?
I have looked all around and haven't been able to find one.

What is the recommended change interval for this oil? Or is there one since it is continuously burned off?

Also, if you do change it, is it as simple as removing the old and pouring in the new, or are there bleeds/etc. that must be done?

I have read the owners manual and the repair manual and can't find any information on the 2-stroke oil.

Thanks,

You do not drain the oil reservoir of a two stroke outboard because the oil is consumed.

The only oil that needs to be changed occasionally is the oil in the lower unit.

Like Tom states....two stroke motors use a mixture of oil and fuel (mixed together) to lubricate the internals of the engine while it's burning the fuel. This is why you'll find that you'll have to add oil to the oil reservoir after a few outings.....it's burned with the fuel.
