Hi, I have a question for the prop experts. I am scheduled to pick up my 1987 Montauk 17 tomorrow that just had a new E-Tec 90 installed. The dealer reported to me that they saw 44 mph with the E-Tec. The prop is a Viper 19, which leads to my question: I have read here that 17 pitch is recommended for the Viper. Should I be concerned about 19?

What else should I be asking about before I drive it home? Should I be concerned about RPMs, or something else, or is 44 MPH the information I need? When I dropped it off I did mention about mounting it high up as I've read here and both guys I talked to seemed to know about that as they repower a lot of Whalers. I've never purchased a new engine before so I'm not sure what to expect, but it is about a 2 hour drive for me to get to the dealer so I can't easily pop in and it will take some effort if I need to take it back again.

Thanks in advance, you guys are the best.

As long as you are hitting 5000 RPM or above at WOT, it's fine. Some boats are just a little faster than others.

There's a lot of info over on the E-Tec Owners Group website that will help in checking the dealers rigging. No wing nuts on the battery, properly sized fuel lines, asking what the engine oiling is set to (TCW-3 or XD100), etc.
