wanting to put pro kicker 9.9 with power trim and start on my 2001 mint montauk whaler. pros and cons. need input asap thanks in advance

Lots of people have kickers on their Montauks.
Take a look through the personal pages here.

I personally wouldn't use an electric start with an extra battery onboard.

What main motor do you have now and what kicker are you looking at?
The lighter the better.

what mounting bracket would you use and what side of the boat

No mounting bracket at all per Boston Whaler recommendation.
Mount it directly on the transom just as I showed you in my link above.

What side depends on how you are going to use the kicker.
With controls on the console or manually from the stern and, which brand of kicker as the control cables come out on different sides for different brands.
