I'm looking for input/advice here, I have a 1994 Johnson 70HP 2 stroke. I was told by a sales associate at West Marine that if you can't get to a marina that sells non-ethanol gas then using the Stabil additive in regular gasoline works just as well - no harm or detriment to the engine and enhances performance?
Is this fact or fiction ?

I swear by marine formula sta-bil, non ethanol or not. Especially if you store your gas tanks in your boat outside. I keep my boat and tanks inside and still use it.

I would not believe the "enhances performance" but the rest is true. I never pay for non ethanol gas, always use stabil in all the gas, boat, mower,... and i have never had any issues.

It certainly doesn't enhance performance, or make ethanol-poisoned gas work as well as the real stuff - ethanol has less energy content than gasoline. But Stabil doesn't harm anything, and it's a good thing to use if you're going to be storing gas for a long time period.

I have used stabil with good results. There is also marine stabil. However, these days with the problems ethanol has been producing, there is a preferred product called Startron Enzyme. I noticed it gets high reviews from most in the marine business. I plan on using it once my supply of stabil is used up.
