I have noticed that the trim/tilt motor or pump is making a strange clinking noise when i lower the motor. I have also notice that it will not make this noise when the temperature is warmer (60ish) or when you raise the motor, only during the lowering.
I have tried spraying silicone on the pump shaft but no help.
Any clues as to what this sound could be from.
I guess I should also add that the trim systems seems to working great other than making the sound.

Are you sure it is the trim pump- and not the motor's mounting brackets beginning to seize on the tilt tube? I had the except same thing happen to one of my Mercurys. Grease was the solution.

I'll give it a look, that makes since as it sounds like an external sound.

Thanks

I installed two new bushing for the trim/tilt pin (one was broken) it seem to cure the problem. I still get an initial clink but that's it (nothing like the constant clinking) so I'll remove the top pin and re-grease it also. Many thanks.

Well I spoke to soon, I thought the problem was cured but it seems I have not locate the source of the sound. With warmer weather around the corner I may not find it.
I tried using a stethoscope but could only isolate the sound was closer to the bottom of the unit.
I did notice that after raising and lowering the unit a few times the sound would go away, let the unit set for a few minutes and the sound was back.
