You should take a closer look at the clam shell cover on the bow locker drain. In your photo, it appears to not be positioned close enough.

I recall the proper placement is covering the drain hole 1/2 way. This position creates the Venturi (vacumn) effect and pulls the water while underway.

If the cover is not large enough, Perko sells 3 sizes. You may need to go up a size.

Uh-oh, that might be a problem. We machined that out of 316L billet. It's solid, but we planned on a friction twist plug from the topside to stop the splash-up. The diameter of the hole for that drain is smaller than stock. We were just calculating, I hope our little mod works, if I have to put a clam shell cover back on, I'll be upset, that was the one part of the boat I disliked from the factory.

What size Merc is on the back?

1.5 liter, 3 cylinder, two-stroke. It's a 1995, been rebuilt from ground up. I'm not sure what HP is, it has not been dyno'd. I know it weighs 303 lbs.

That engine is a Mercury 90. Cosnidering the way you have it set up, it looks like you plan to go REAL FAST! Beautiful job!

Image Marine in Seminole, and his cooperative group were consulted on the hull modifications. Basically, the main strakes (planing chines) were modified and extended to within 1" of the transom, angled and vented (pretty cool design) you all will see it when Joe Kriz posts the project album . Then, Eric created a "virtual pressure" running pad at the rear of the boat. The "pad" is ~12" x 48" and was created by triangular shapes with sharp entry. These guys are pros, I just asked them to reach a goal, and they did it. The Jack Plate is a 4" Atlas from TH Marine. Eric disassembled it entirely, sanded and polished every inch, then we sent it off for Marine grade "deep-bright" annodising. The part that the motor mounts to was painted "Ferrari Black" (LOL!) by a shop that only paints Italian exotic cars (and jack plates). The Plate is awesome to just look at, the finish is top notch.

Wow, that should be a sporty ride! I have a friend who has a 1980's vintage 15 SS with a 70 HP Yamaha on a jackplate and he can outrun my Montauk with a 90 HP. With the combination of the bottom modifications, engine, performance gearcase and propeller, I'd be shocked if you didn't get into the mid 50's. I think I speak for the group in saying that we'd all like to see a link to a video of the sea trials. Have a blast, it looks awesome.

In case you're interested, I have a really nice rubber hubbed (no prop rattle) Mercury Laser II in 26" pitch that should make your rig "Scream and Fly."
$100 to your door. Not many people can run this much pitch, but with the 2.33 ratio, you may be able to.

Is that a before and after picture of the hull? I see your modification in the first hull picture but not the second.

It's there! Eric has that Gel so shiny it is hard to tell. You can make out the strakes that have been extended. And if you look close you can see the running pad created its about 12" wide x 48" long

Look what I found on good old eBay last year, Just had them restored to add to the boat. I couldn't decide which way to go, either vintage or new laser-cut logos, but the vintage ones blow them away. Gotta figure out something to do with the laser cut ones now.

i think those chromed logos will compliment the other custom touches you've added nicely. They should really stand out against the black hull. Please keep us posted as things progress.

Does pulling a painted hull up on a sand beach scratch the hull bottom? I do not even do that with a gelcoat bottom.

Its GEL, the only paint on the boat is the motor. I didn't beach it, just walked it up for the photo. Eric would have been mad at me if I would have nosed it up on the beach....I know better! The sand here is sugar soft, as long as you are below the shell line.

Gonna have to start a new thread, "got a new motor, stolen by friend, getting anew motor for Max" will be the title. I am on the hunt of a vintage I-6, Merc BP1000, 1250 BP, 1250 Super BP, or a 1500 XS, they just need to have a shift-able speedmaster lower unit (F-N-R). If anyone has or knows of one, I WILL buy it.
