Hello every one this my first post here and I thought I give a little background. I live in Michigan and I bought a new 2012 Montauk 170 late last summer. It has a 90 4 stroke merc. Only was able to put maybe 15 hours on it. This not my first bout but first BW. Looking forward to learn more about these boats and ask some questions. Thank you George

George-
Welcome and congratulations.
With all the many different designs of whaler models, we use specific model names to differentiate between the designs.
The Montauk you have is refered to as the Montauk 170. The older, classic design is the Montauk 17. I point this out not to scold but rather to allow accuracy. A member might reply to a question with an answer that is not accurate if the model name is not accurate.
There is a large reference area (see sidebar) with articles, FAQ's, vendor info etc. The site also has a great search feature. I suggest you do a search before posting a question since there is a pretty good chance it has already been asked.

Welcome to the club George. My name is Bob and I'm a WHALERHOLIC ! This is truly the place to hang out..I knew I was in trouble when my wife told all my friends of my problem being obsessed after we purchased our first whaler last summer. During our 30 day warranty period, I was in the Atlantic Ocean for 23 of those days....now I am in the process of thinking about a serious cruise on the seabord for next summer.
If you read closely on this site, one may realize it may have cultlike effects. Now repeat after me...I love my boat...I love my boat...I love my boat.......

Larry you're right I live 10 min. away from Lake St. Clair. That is where I boat. I fish for small mouth and large mouth bass. Catch and release. Love the fight they give.
