Hi everyone,

I'm getting my new engine on Wednesday and got the question from the dealer, which length is required for the control cables.
I found this info under "Articles" for the 17 Montauk.

3. Control cables:
a. sump, straight, engine: 15 feet
b. sump, tight bend, engine: 17 feet
c. sump, wide bend, engine: 18 feet
c. sump, bend, loop, engine: 20-21 feet

Is 18 feet enough or do I need 20-21 feet?
The cables today, runs out from the tunnel opening (sump?) to the starboard side in a big bend and back in to the engine well from the side.

Also thinking about the mounting height. I will start with a standard alu propeller. Will it work to mount the engine in the third hole then?

I rather don't want to reinstall the engine if I change to steel propeller later.

b. and c. above are not for control cables. Those are for the steering cable.
Your dealer should be able to figure that out if he is installing the cables for you.

As far as engine height, I would go with 2 holes up like in your post above as I am not sure about the Suzuki. An E-Tec can be mounted all the way up.
Maybe someone with a Suzuki can tell you where theirs is mounted.

Anyway the cables were stuck due to wet frozen sand in the front area of the cable tunnel. Could remove the two fuel hoses (have a fuel filter in the stearing console.
The control cables came loose after some warming and digging out sand. But we couldn't get theme out as the ends got stuck.
Need to find a better way to warm up the frozen sand.
Motor is at least bolted to the boat now and I mounted two 3mm stainless steel plates on both sides of the transom to allocate the loads and it looked really nice too.
Unfortunatly my garage is one or two feet to short to get the boat and trailer inside (and any way full of other stuff)
