I am new to my 2002 170 Montauk and need some advice. First, I have twin 6.6 gallons fuel tanks....do you know if they make a larger fuel tank to fit under the driver seat area.? I spent about 4 hours with the kids and almost drained them both and would like to get around 20 gallons on board for a days worth of boating....

Also, to tune of a 90 HP Merc is just replacing the plugs, right? Any reco on type of plug, plus what is the gap?

regarding the Merch 90hp, what is the best pitch prop...size and pitch?

Last, I want to add a stereo and speakers, where is the best place to add them. I thought about putting the stereo down to the right of the steering console and the speakers up as high as possble on teh sides..... is there a standard or factory location that works best.? all advice is greatly appreciated!

heatxcape,

Just to be sure because you have a 2002 model. Do you have a Montauk 17' or a Montauk 170?
There is a huge difference between these 2 models......

I would call Pate Tanks and see what they offer for that model.
I don't think they have a website but here is an outfit that advertises the 24 gallon Pate Tank.

You might also consider a plastic Tempo tank. Maybe someone else here can tell us what size is needed for your Montauk... Check Bass Pro for the sizes and pricing on the Tempo Tanks...

heatxcape,

You forgot to answer my question.....

Which model Montauk do you have???

1. Montauk 17 (1973 to 2002) (Classic Hull)
2. Montuak 170 (2002 to present) (Accu-Trac Hull)

Both of the above models were made in 2002.

I forgot to ask the question....has anyone tried to mount the 24 gallon tank in the front, instead of the cooler seat that my kids do not use for weight distribution?

The closer to the bow the rougher the ride, so it might be a worse place for the tank. Plus you can't sit on the tank and you wouldn't have the routing tunnel for fuel line either.
