we're trying to pick up an old 95-ish Mariner 75HP. we have no idea what the thing is worth but we're trying to get it cheap. it was on a Pontoon boat that was used my lake lanier sailing club. when it was on the pontoon boat it gave them lots of trouble but i think it was because it did not get run very often and when it did get run the people using it had little to no idea what they were doing. but they always were able to get it going. the motor has been sitting in the woods for 2-3 years it will need a new prop and possibly controls. if we can get it for a decent price we'll fix whats wrong with it (if there is anything wrong with it) then give it a tune up.
what do you guys think would be a reasonable price? personally im thinking $200. we're asked the rear commodore and he said he'd get back to us with a price. we're needing a motor for our 1962 Nauset resto.

That question is way to hard for someone to answer online, as asked. First make sure it runs, then have it looked at by a mechanic, have the compression checked etc. or roll the dice, you may get lucky, or end up with a $200 paperweight.
The engine is the mot important piece of your restoration, don't skimp on this.

i understand that but we cant really have it tested before we buy, if it does run and we know it the club will charge more. it ran when the took it off 3 years ago and thats all we have to go by, but even then we dont know what they will tell us the price is. if it is having issues we'll fix it but we just dont know what motors are going for these days. cosmetically it looks good, it has some sun damage and its dirty but i will clean up decently.
if the economy would pick up we'd like to get a new 115hp E-tec for our 94 edge water 170 and take the 1993 90 HP evinrude off it to put on the whaler. but that could take awhile.
