Good afternoon,

All of a sudden the reverse on my boat no longer works. Checked the cables and all seem to be connected. How does one start troubleshooting?

Look at the shift shaft that runs from under the power head to the lower unit. I believe it is exposed in a couple spots and was made of steel that year. They rust, get thin and twist.

If it is the shift shaft, a company that makes a two piece stainless replacement. Takes about an hour to install.
