am working on a 1968 currituck, trying to uncover the original hull number. The boat was has new interior gelcoat that was applied without much (any) prep of the old gel coat, so i'm taking off what i can.

how were the original HIN's attached? are they painted on, pressed in etc? just dont want to ruin them (if they still exist) while removing new gel coat.
