Can anyone tell me, is this a noisy engine? I have one which is two years old and it is very loud, also there is a distinct rattling when i lift the prop from the water when flushing the engine is this normal? What can i do to make it quieter?

Thanks for the assistance.

Sam

You have a 2010 Mercury 40 FourStroke?

Is the engine loud at idle, certain RPM's or general loudness overall? Describe the sounds and when they occur that are of concern.

If the trim/tilt motor makes alot of sound, I would suggest it is low in hydraulic fluid. Check your manual for how to check the level and what oil to use to fill the reservoir.

Its not the tilt its the engine itself, i got on another boat with a mercury 250 and it was quiet at idle, just a low hum, mine sounds like a motorbike engine, more gutsy as opposed to a smooth purr. It runs fine though.

There is another noise that comes from the base, propeller end when i lift it out of the water when flushing the engine, almost as if the side attached anodes are rattling, they are not though, is that normal? Is it the impeller? If it was the impeller how would i know?

Many thanks,

Sam
