I have a 1988 Evinrude 28 SPL on a 13 foot Whaler. I rebuilt the carb last week and I ran the boat for about two hours and it ran great. The next day, I went to the boat to go out fishing and I started the boat up and it idled fine when it was up to temp. I pulled away from the dock and made it about 200 feet from the no wake zone but as soon as I put a load on the motor, it felt like I loss a cylinder.

I tried to pump fuel into the carb to check for a lean condition but only to find no change. I limped back to the dock where I preformed a compression check and found 110 psi on each cylinder. With the boat docked I'm able to start the motor without any issues. I can rev the motor fine but as soon as a load is applied it runs horribly. I'm thinkin coil pack, power pack or possibly a timing issue. Any advice would be great.

I'm thinkin' you just worked on the carburetor...so maybe the carburetor has something to do with it.

Probably picked up a piece of fuzz or something in your carb rebuild - it only takes a tiny piece of something, even a hair.

I have verified that my issue is spark , by moving wirers around and such , I have found the motor is running off one cyl, so now is it the power pack or staitor? Good chance I'm going to replace every thing For piece of mind lol.

New power pack and two coils installed , firing on all cyl. Time for a test run . Thank you for your help.
