I am thinking more seriously about not spending the time/money to get my the sea drive on my new to me 85 outrage 18.

I have read the article several times. Was hoping to ask the author some questions and if he has since had any regrets.

Questions, such as.. why does the whaler sit lower in the water than the non-converted whaler?

would he have installed the jack plate higher, looking back? I am no expert, but it looks mounted low compared to the other 18 in the pictures.

How does it mount in a non-converted whaler? over the top of the transom? Could I try that?

Thanks!

ok, I have read some more archived discussions about it and see that the non sea drive outrages had a notch in the transom that the motor was mounted over, and that at the factory the notch was filled for sea drive models.

So.... anyone recreated the notch, instead of installing a jackplate?
