Does anyone know if an HC5345 cylinder will work on a 1986 omc 150hp V6 outboard?

Parts lists say cylinder HC5348, but a vendor is insisting the 5345 will bolt right up, which I find odd. Why then is there a specific part number?

Thank you

This may help you; teleflexmarine.com The web site has all their cross refferances as to which cylinder works with what engine.

Thanks THOM.

I've reviewed the Teleflex docs and suspect I'm might be going the learn the vendor doesn't know what he is talking about... The challenge is the one spec'd for our old engine is not common at all these days.

cheers

I would give Teleflex a call.
They seem to have great product support.

Joe

I sit here typing...an embarrassed geek..obviously spending too much time on the computer looking for answers that could be a short phone call away!

I'll call them tomorrow morning and post the answer!

I talked to Teleflex, and learned that the tiller arm length is 7/8 of an inch further forward on the older OMC outboards, This is why there is a different part number for the cylinder which fits the older engines.

I also learned that an HC5345 can be converted to an HC5348 by an authorized repair centre, by changing out the plate. Teleflex will not sell the part to anyone off the street...only to their authorized service people.
