Rapidly accelerating corrosion on the tilt and trim mechanism of my 2003 Yamaha TLRB.
I think the affected part is the stator assembly cover on the port side of engine.
Boat is kept in dry stack and is flushed after every use.
Any idea why this is occuring?
Is this a big deal to fix?
I'm new to this so any ideas are appreciated.
Here is what it looks like.

This link is broken, please check the viewing options on the photobucket album. I think it is currently set to private. You need to change it to public.

Yamaha has a problem with trim motors rusting like that. Does it work? If so you can coat it with something like POR-15. If not ARCO sells them fairly cheap and they are easy to install.

It is the trim motor.
Mine is rusted way worse than that on my 1998 yamaha 75hp on the montauk. I spray it with WD40 every now and then to help keep the water/salt at bay. Its been that way for at least 5 years.

My mechanic, who is a good friend and I trust, says don't worry about it until it finally fails. Its not worth fixing until it does fail. I believe you have to pull the motor to get full access, at least on my model.

My other boat, which as twin Yam F225's, is lift kept & I religiously rinse the bracket area after every trip. No rust on those in the last 7 years
