Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: How heavy an engine can my 15ft striper handle?

I have a spare Yamaha F100 sitting in the garage and I thought it would be fun to put it on my 1987 striper. I've seen people run 115hp but they were all lighter 2-strokes. My F100 has a claimed dry weight of 366lbs. Can my boat handle it?

The original style classic 2 stroke 70hp weighed approximately 250 pounds.

I would not put on anything heavier then around 260 pounds like the newer Yamaha 70hp 4 stroke.
All the motors on this Current Engine Choice list are under 260 pounds except one.

That's what I figured. I guess I should be happy with my 50hp Yamaha. Thanks for the advice.

366# is a lot of weight. I have heard of people putting 320# Evinrude 75& 90 and they say the classics 15' are stern heavy with those motors. I probably wouldn't go any heavier than those and I would expect to make some sacrifices that much weight.
