I've had my 1972 17' Montauk since I was 14 years old. My father gave it to me after he bought a bigger boat. I'm in the process of completely restoring it, but I've run into a small problem. I cannot find replacement rub rail for it. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Rub rails changed slightly through the years.
The Montauk was not made until 1973 so we need to know what model you have.

I HAVE A 78 MONTAUK AND JUST FINISHED REPLACING MY RUBRAIL. I GOT MINE THROUGH WEST MARINE, TACO IS THE MAKER. IT WAS 75$ WITH SHIPPING. THIS WAS FOR A 20' SECTION WHICH WAS ENOUGH FOR 1 SIDE. I ONLY NEEDED TO TO ONE SIDE. IM PLEASED SO FAR BUT IT IS WHITER THAN OTHER, I DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL BEGIN TO MATCH OVER TIME. RIVETS WERE HARDER TO FIND. 3/16"X5/8" I THINK. OOPS, FORGOT, THIS WAS PRICE FOR JUST THE MIDDLE PART, THE SEMIRIGID SECTION THAT ACCEPTS THE BLACK RUBBER PEICE. MY RUBBER AND L-SHAPED PIECE WERE IN GOOD SHAPE SO I JUST REPLACED 1 PART. TAKES ABOUT 50 RIVETS PER SIDE.

Should have followed Joe's advice. Twin Cities will sell you the whole setup for $150, INCLUDING rivets, semi-rigid parts (two part) and insert. What this is, is two 13' kits for the semi rigid parts in white, and a full-length black insert. Sue is trying to convince Whaler to let her offer a full-length kit in ALL white. But for now, this is the best fix. There will be a seam at the bow for the 2-piece semi-rigid railing, but the insert is full length.

An option also available is SS screws instead of rivets. This adds about $25 to the order, but makes replacement easier.
