I have a 1976 15 Johnson with long shaft that needs a new impeller. I can't figure out how to disconnect the shift shaft to remove the lower unit.

Look under the carburetor next to the block. Should be a bolt that goes through the end of the shift shaft.

I did that but it did not release it. I just got it figured out. The long shaft motors have an extra 6 inch spacer block on the housing and it has to be dropped to expose a disconnect link in the shift shaft.
