On my 78 Montauk I have two controls for the 1986 75hp Merc, one for the gears (F, N, R) and one for throttle. A pic can be seen on my personal page. The previous owner says it was always set up that way. Is it possible there was a kicker on there at one point and the extra control was adapted for the gear shifter?

And, what are the pros and cons of this setup? I'm a novice so I don't have a ton of experience with a single control anyway. I plan on mostly cruising with the fam and a little fishing....not into speed so needing a lot of time to quickly stop or change direction is not a concern, or should it be?

Ok, I need to learn to research a little more before posting. Looks like I have a Morse dual control system...???

Anyway, pros and cons?

By the way you describe one control for shift and one for throttle it sounds like the morse control was made for one engine. Did you notice one knob is black and one is red. If that control was for dual engines each lever would control one engine's shift and throttle.

I love the look of the old School Morse controls. May take a bit of getting used to , But Im sure it will be great. I woudl love to change mine over..

I found that out too after a bit more time spent researching...just had never seen it before. Learning as I go!!!!
