I went to start my 2006 johnson 150 for the first time this year and it was a pain to start. Squeezed the primer bulb and it never got hard. Finally i got it to run and all was well. Did a little research and people say to hold the primer bulb vertically to help the check valves seal. I thought that was way to simple a fix but i went home and tried it and sure enough problem solved. 2 pumps and it was hard. No jokes please. Lol. Anyway, i thought id hive everyone a heads up there.

yep that is how they work. Even if you would have held it vertical it would have taken more than two pumps that first start up. It might have taken 7 or 10 pumps..........

Replace you primer bulb, and only replace it with a factory primer bulb, its not worth it and yours is going bad....

I couple of things could be wrong. The check valve could be malfunctioning and is blocking the fuel flow at higher revs. Or, you could have a degraded bulb where you have some internal parts that have broken free and are blocking the fuel flow. Or, your fuel lines are degrading internally and there is rubber clogging up the bulb.

I have experienced all three and I now travel with a spare bulb.

Westcoasrwhaler, you misunderstood. Everything is working fine. Motor runs great. I was just posting something that i dont think is common knowledge. I dont know if it means the bulb will fail soon but for now it works fine by tipping it up and alot of pwople seem to gave good luck with this technique
