I am installing a 1999 70 hp Yamaha on my 15. I purchased the boat with the old cables and they all seem too long. The steering cable is 11' which I have searched and found to be recommended so I think that will work however the shift/throttle cables are at least 15'. What is the proper length for these cables to connect this engine to a 703 Yamaha controller. Will these long cables work?

You actually want the shift and throttle cables to make a loop in front of the motor, to allow movement and to prevent them being forced into too tight a bend. Give the cables you have a try - since they were on there before they may be just right. If they are too long, they'll just be a bit in the way - they'll still work, and then you'll be able to determine the size you really need.
