I guess I have a basic question/opinion as well. I have a 17' Montauk, 1985. I am wondering if the newest Yamaha 90 hp. 4 stroke is to big for the boat, I run in really shallow water a lot of the time. Any opinions?

Welcome to WC.

On the left sidebar is Articles. Under the Engine subcategory is Engine Guide for 16-17' models.

If you use the search feature for "Yamaha F90 Montauk" you wil find many discussions. A majority say the engine is not too heavy. Moving the battery to the console is suggested to counter some of the added weight.

i have a F90 on a 1984 Montauk with a 6hp kicker. Move the batteries to the console and enjoy. Incredible engine. Very efficient and quiet. No worries.
