Hello All!

Need your help to determine the correct size of a leaning post for my 18' outrage so that I can modify the frame to fit my whaler. Does anyone know what the correct height, width and distance from console to seat should be?

What I have now is a 45" tall from top of back rest to floor. The width of the seat is 36 " and the bottom legs are 40.5" apart. The height of the legs from seat to floor is 28-3/4". Would appreciate any information you can share tonight. Tomorrow I'll close my eyes and take her to the welders.

Do you like the leaning post the way it is? I would get a leaning post that fit how you use the boat and stick to it. The chance of mounting it in existing holes is pretty slim, so I wouldn't worry about that part. I guess, my real question is, why change the one you have? Also, if you feel you must change it, does it make sense price wise, to remake the one you have or just buy a new or used one that fits better?

I'm refurbushing the boat and removed the swivel seats. The floor has been rebuilt and painted.The leaning post was given to me but it is just a little too big for the whaler. I figured the seat should be in alignment with the console and the height of the back rest should not be level with the windshield.

The width of the console is approximately 33"at bottom and the width of the legs on the leaning post is 40.5". So I need to fighure out what would be the most confortable and practically modification for this frame so that looks like it belongs to the whaler.

Take a look in the photo section there are some pictures of leaning posts and one in the OEM section. The OEM section, indicates that the leaning post is as wide as the RPS legs. I can measure mine when I get home, if someone hasn't already responded. As for the height, I would go with what is comfortable for you. If you do the cushions to match other standard Whaler material, noone will be the wiser that it's not official Whaler.

:DI'm taking it to the shop on Wednesday to have it modified. I'm going to have the legs cut down four inches the seat width will be 32 or 33" inches and the bottom width on the legs will be 34 or 36"inches. Wish me luck!
