Looking to repower 25' Revenge with used twin 200 - 225 hp engines. Have been looking on ebay, craigslist. Are there better ways to find good used engines? Looking at keeping Yamaha's on the boat but open to other brands.

The problem is ...How far do you want to travel? Plenty in South Fla.

There's rebuilder on the Atlanta craigslist who has a good reputation. Don't recall the name but he's located in Commerce Ga. Freshwater engines.

Are you looking directly on Craigslist or are you using a Craigslist search tool? I always use www.SearchTempest.com to search a radius of my zip code to search all the different locations at one time.

Living in Florida I would say I would never buy a used outboard from my state, especially South Florida, or the Keys. Outboards are used 12 months a year here, and this is a salt water environment. They get used up pretty fast. How do you know the salt water motor you see for sale was ever flushed out.
Why take a chance. I would rather buy an outboard from the Great Lakes area, the further north the better. They live in a freshwater environment, with a very short boating season. I have bought a few 50+ year old outboards from this area, and the ones I have seen and bought were never a disappointment. All of the old outboards I see and run at the AOMCI events come from this area, there are no old outboards from Florida, but there are a lot of used up newer ones for sale here.

X2

I bought "Most" of my motor from a guy in Minnisota who got it from a boat rental agency in northern Canada. The motor was used in COLD freshwater lakes and when I got it....though it's a 1993, it was in pristine condition. Binkie knows what he's talking about.

I have never repowered a single boat, but I am probobly gonna have to repower the one I have now someday in the future...it was a FL boat, and although it was well cared for by the last owner, the engine is still 31 yrs old! I know this boat was used almost exclusively in saltwater and I can see some erosion on the steering arm on the engine. My last boat was NEVER used in freshwater and I know the steering arm seems to be the first thing that corrodes as that motor was Yamaha and started doing the same thing despite care taken after about 8 yrs of use.

I was looking around for future repowering options myself and I noticed that there are a couple of companies that appear to be completely refurbishing engines and selling them for a much discounted price over the same engines new. I am curious if anyone here has had any experience with this? Thanks In Advance
