Can anyone tell me the difference between a Mercury 150 HP Two Stroke and a Mercury Mariner 150 HP Two Stroke? I had a 1990 Outrage with a 150 Mercury "Black Max" engine that I had good luck with. I'm looking at a 1992 Outrage with a 150 Mercury Mariner engine that looks the same, only gray instead of black. I was told that Mariner was the "commercial" version, but what does that mean?
Thanks.

No, the Mariner 150 is not a commercial version of the Mercury 150, they are the same motor, different paint color.

Yes, they seem like the exact same motor. Must be some kind of marketing strategy. The Black Max is black, of course, and has a picture of a man's head with hair blown back (presumably from the apparent wind at WOT). On the other hand, the Mariner is gray. Also, with a man's head on the cowl, but incognito as a fisherman in foul weather gear.
