If I am going to mount a 8hp long shaft 2-stroke to my 1979 Montauk do I need to mount a bracket or do I just hang the motor of the transom on either side of the main motor. Thank you for your feed back. Best Regards, Blair

Blair,
Some of the 70's Montauks had a recessed area on the starboard side of the transom for hanging a kicker. Later models did not have that area however, many still just attached right to the transom. Most put the motor on the starboard side as that is the way most of the motors rigging comes up and into the motor. I would recommend adding a piece of thin rubber between the motor and transom to protect the gel coat if you hang your motor on the transom.

Hang it right on the transom, NO bracket necessary, wanted, or needed.
The starboard side is preferred unless your stern light is mounted on the starboard side which some year Montauks were.
