Seems like a good idea, but I would like to hear some other opinions. Found some on Ebay. No water pump problems.

Honds 2hp is a great one. Not much power. Friend has one. 5 hp sounds good for my 13 if ever the need.

A good friend of mine had a briggs and stratton on his Inflatable which tended to be wet and the engine would cut out. The experiment ended when a defective weld broke loose and the entire outboard ended up on the bottom of Lake Huron. All that was left was the clamp that held it too the transom. If you search U Tube there might be a video that will chronicle this event. Briggs is no longer in the outboard business. Lots of them to sell in warehouses but no longer in production. I would not put that crude POS on any Whaler that I would own. jmo

having an engine fall off your boat must be a terrible experience...

It is sudden, but better than it climbing into the boat with you.
They are also noisy.
Run one before you buy it.
