Have 9 foot whaler with a 3.5 hp can i put a 8 hp on need more speed, can not get on a plane with the 3.5 help

The Boston Whaler catalogs I looked at for a few different years show 5 HP Max.............

5hp is the listed maximum but BW didn't list minimum hp to plane which makes me think it won't plane with that hp. I asked this question a while ago and was told it would not plane with 5 hp. You probably need 8-10hp to plane it like the 11 and 13 models.

the 9' whaler will plane with a 5hp and a small kid driving - well mine does.
Realistically to get them to plane with a adult driving, you need 9.9hp, a 15hp is better. But as I do not think they were really designed to plane, find they porpoise a bit. Doel or whale fins on the motor will smooth it right out if it does
