Well, I ended up buying the 1986 18 ft Whaler outrage! Yea it needs a new powerhead on the 1998 evinrude 150 but it is basically in great shape. and I knew that before I bought it so that helps. Any help on the powerhead is appreiciated. I see they go for about $3200 on the internet. how much is a fair price for labor to replace it?

Congrats on the new toy. I have no clue on the labor part of your project but please do your homework on the rebuilder of your power head. Sometimes the best choice is not always right in your own back yard. Good luck

Yea, I'm in the process of doing that research now. I'm leaning towards having the local evinrude dealer do it but I am trying to get references for others. I was all set to take it to oneoutboard in Sundberry, Pa but did a search on oneoutboard complaints and it almost crashed my computer.LOL

When you're calling around locally, ask who they use to bore and hone the block (most places usually don't have this equipment and send it out to be done). If you find one local name popping up frequently, call that shop and ask who they recommend as their most reputable rebuilder.

You can usually get a remanufactured powerhead by evinrude thru your local dealer. These are factory
re-manufactured. My local dealer always recommends that route if you dont want to spend on a new motor
