Going to help a friend change a water pump impeller on his 10 year old Yamaha 25hp 4 stroke. I've changed many over the years on Mercruiser sterndrives, Mec. outboards, and several OMC's. Is there anything majorly different on this unit? Like disconnecting shift linkage etc...
He said it overheats at idle and the tell tail is weak, but is ok when RPMs are up. I suggested an impeller, he said it's never been changed. Only ever been used on a small fresh water lake.
Any insight on what to expect would be greatly appreciated.

It should be straight forward.
I would pull the thermostat and check it too.
