Hi I have a 78' Whaler 13 tiller model with no steering console. I have the original 2 stroke 15 hp johnson motor with a 9.5 x10 prop. This engine came with the boat off the showroom floor. I want to buy a new prop but want to make sure I buy the correct pitch for my boat. I typically run it with just me and a lot of gear in the ocean or sound where I keep my sailboat. I would like it to scoot when I want to. I like to plane out and I like to idle in gear as well in no wake zones. Also not sure if the prop that came with my engine is the correct one or not. Does anyone out there know what pitch I may need??? thanks. Scott

I'd use the 9" x 9" Stiletto Ariva 2.5 assuming you have a 13' model.

You'll need the A202 hub kit to go with it for your Johnson 15.

Thanks Tom. I do have the 13' version. will the 9" give me more top end and torque?

It will definitely give you much better acceleration and will avoid lugging the motor, which what I fear would happen with the 10" pitch which is best suited to a small light skiff that can go 25 MPH or more.

Remember, the WOT range of your motor is 5500-7000 RPM. You need a prop that will allow the motor to reach that speed.

Thanks Tom, I looked into the stiletto prop 9x9. I also found a Solas prop 9.25x9 for cheaper. Is the stiletto aluminum a better performer? Also just reading up on prop knowledge and realized that reducing pitch will give me better hole shot but sacrifices top end speed. Do you think that will apply to me in this case? I already bought the 9.5x10 from michigan wheel but was going to either sell it or keep it for a back up. If anyone is interested I will give you a good deal...I would really like to make a descision soon and get the solas or the stiletto. Any opinions welcome...thanks
