Hey everyone,
I am going to look at a 2005 Yamaha 60 4stroke for my 15' Whaler tonight. I've been doing some research but then I read something about 60 hp being a little low for water skiing. I wanted to double check with you all before I took the plunge on your thoughts. It was kind of surprising because my 13' with a 40 2 stroke can pull 2 skiiers no problem. This boat will be used for all kinds of things from booze cruises to diving to skiing. What is the general consensus on the Yamaha 60 4 stroke?

Also, is there anything I should know about doing a compression check on this motor? What should the readings be (never done one on a 4 stroke before)?

I would think 60 up would pull a skier up. You may have to prop it down but it should be able to do it.

A 60hp on a 15' should ski atleast as well as a 40/13'

Is the 2005 a carbed motor, or were all the F60s EFI?

I was under the assumption it is EFI, at least I hope so. Also note that the 40 on the 13 is a 2 stroke, while this is a 4 stroke. I know the 60 2 stroke was more than enough to pull up to slalom skiers behind my buddy's 15.

It is EFI, and is currently in my garage. It came with a free boat which definitely belongs at the redneck yacht club. In the mean time it will be fun to use while I paint my whaler. Going for the first outing tomorrow, I will let you know how it goes.
