I just scored a 1989 Revenge 20 wt with a massive 200 Merc two stroke on it. It realy sucks the gas! What is a good repowering option for this boat? I use it for Salmon fishing and maybe some light cruising with the wife. Looking for fuel economy more than speed. Thanks

200 HP is the typical power for the Revenge 20 Walk-Through. It takes a certain amount of power to make that boat move.

I would not want less than 150 HP on that boat and a nice four stroke or DFI motor would improve you fuel mileage significantly, but it will not double it.

The Mercury 200 likes to run fast and will get it best fuel mileage between 4000 and 4500 RPM. A good propeller can improve the fuel mileage as well. On my Mercury powered Revenge Walk Through I gained 15 percent better fuel mileage by simply switching form the cheap aluminum props the boat came with to good stainless steel propellers.

Can you recommend a certain pitch that would help? I've only had this boat out once and the gas gauge wouldn't stop moving!

Well, exactly what propeller is on it now?

How high is the motor mounted on the transom?

If you've only had it out once, you need to get to "know" your fuel gauge before jumping to conclusions.

Floater, I repowered my Revenge 19 with a 2004 Honda 135 and it has been a magnificent engine. Your boat is a bit heavier than mine (about 500 lbs). But we still ski with ours with 4-5 people aboard. Only area where it struggles is a deep water start with a slalom skier. But the economy/mpg is really great. We had an Evinrude 150 on it prior, and I got 3nmpg. With the Honda, it is at least 5, sometimes 6 nmpg...literally doubling the mileage. The 6 cylinder Evinrude was a great engine for power. The Honda is quiet too, and of course, no two stroke exhaust.

Take a look at my personal page. I bought OMC for years until their quality went to hell. They could have produced an engine like Honda, but did not. So I switched and am very happy.

Evinrude is now made by BRP and they make a great 2 stroke environmentally friendly CARB 3 rated engine for todays use.

Thanks for the tips guys. Almost got the interior back in as i've added Lowrance and Temp troll and stereo and extra battery and switch and down riggers. Once all this is done i'll get her out and fish for a few days to see how bad the fuel is gonna be before making any further purchases.
