On my 1998 Conquest 21' I noticed that one of the stainless steel bolts that holds the handle on the anchor lid was loose. When I tried to tighten the small bolt it became obvious that it was just spinning and not tightening. After I pulled the small bolt out I noticed what looked like a small piece of copper tubing was threaded on the bottom of the bolt. I then pushed a nail into the hole where the bolt cam out and then pushed out what looked like the head of a Phillips screw. This piece obviously had been part of the threaded copper tubing. This piece functions as a nut and I am wondering where I can get it or even what it is called?

I purchased some of these a few years ago from Whaler.
What size do you have? 8-32 or something else?

I don't recall the exact name of these right now.
Maybe someone else can give us that info or I can look it up later when I get time.

It a barrel nut or sex bolt. It's kind of an unusual one because it looks like it's bronze and the hole goes all the way through, I don't think it would be easy to find. Maybe direct from Whaler is the best source. Here's something similar

All of these though don't have the hole all the way through so your bolt length has got to be right on or else it will bottom out in the nut.

In addition to being known as a sex bolt or barrel nut, this fastener is also known as a Chicago Binding Post or Architectural Bolt.

The chrome plated bronze versions used by Whaler are unusual. I'd just call Sue Lodel and pick up a few.

I may be out of line here because I don't know how this fastener is being used or if you can get to the back side of the hinge.

What you show looks very similar to a standard concrete anchor I use all the time. They are lead and have 2 parts, outer sleeve and threaded wedge nut. As the bolt is tightened the wedge nut expands the sleeve and creates a very solid anchor and you can also remove the part later and re-attach it.

There are numerous different types of anchors that could have useful purposes around our boats as long as we seal them properly.

You have mentioned what size you have as I asked in my post above.

I went out and checked mine today and they are 10-24 in size.....
I cannot find the paperwork on where I bought them except that I know I bought them from a Boston Whaler dealer.

I know there are different ways to make this repair, but I want to repair it as close to the original as possible. The barrel nut shown on the Beckson Marine site looks to be pretty close to the original but I will also check with Sue Lodel from Twin City Marine.
