Hello all,
I have an 84 montauk and want to put a trolling motor on the bow. I was wondering if anyone has put one on there montauk and if so were they mounted it. I don't have the railing on the front now so that wouldn't be in the way. I was also wondering were the battery mounts or if I could run a wire to the console were there are 2 batteries. Thanks for any help.

I have a 1984 Montauk with a Minn-kota autopilot 55 with a 54" shaft and it works great. I mounted it on a quick release bracket, but had to imbed the four bolts in epoxy on the textured step on the bow. I have my bow rails intact so the motor is outside the rails. My batteries are under a front deck I built but you should be able to put your's in the console. The wire may have to go across the deck somewhere though. I use two batteries a weekend and am only on inland lakes so you may want to go to a larger motor.

The following link has some pics of my troll motor setup the way the local Whaler dealer has his Montauk troll motor mounted and suggest to his customers to mount, which he does for a fee.

Used 3/16" aluminum plate cut from a pattern made of cardboard and mounted to the deck with four ss 1/4"x 3" phillip head mahine bolts counter sunk in the aluminum. Attached the troll motor bracket to the plate using counter sunk ss machine bolts from the bottom side and then attached to the hull. The Whaler dealer installs were painted to match the hull and blended pretty good. The boss said she didn't mind the aluminum look, which was good with me, because the paint will end up peeling sooner or later. I polished the plate and shot some clear coat on it before mounting it and can always paint it later.
