Any thoughts on a good cleaner for a fuel stain on fiberglass floor? My tank has been leaking under the cover without my noticing. 17' BW standard.
Too many products on the market to be testing which is best. Figured one of you would have a good idea & save me some $$'s in the process.
Thanks

Is the fuel pre-mixed or is the VRO still in operation. I would think plain bleach would take care of a fuel stain.

Barkeepers friend is a great gel-coat stain remover. Many boat detailer companies use it.

I have found that Simple Green in a 50/50 mixture works quite well on many of the stains on my boat.
I did have a rather nasty spot back where the old VRO tank was mounted and leaking for a long time. Out of desperation I tried a rag soaked in Toulene and used a brass brush that took the stains and gunk right out. I don't recommend it but it worked fine in my case. I do know that Toulene works very well on the rub rails and some other rubber parts but I can't say if it is safe for use everywhere.
The simple green took all the tiny black mildew spots on my gel coat right off and is said to be a completely harmless cleaner.

I would be interested in what works as well. I have gas stains on my line xed gas tanks I have used everything but bleach on with no results! Let us know if you find something that works!

I don't know about Line-X, but just about any common cleanser will clean the gel coat of fuel stains.
I've used Comet, Ajax, Bon Ami, Barkeeper's Friend and Simple Green. All work well. Just use what you have on hand.

I have had good luck using Barkeepeers on the gelcoat.

I scrubbed my deck with the Soft Scrub cleanser used on our tub enclosure in the summer camp. The very mild abrasive and bleach cleaned it very well. My pictures show before & after.

I would start with the mild products (i.e Simple Green) first.
If you use any of the cleaners listed above that have an acid ingredient, make sure you rinsee the area of the stain and all areas downstream with water thoroughly.

VRO works fine....just an old tank that leaked. I was afraid any abrasives would not be good on the gelcoat but soft scrub & simple green make good sense. And I forgot about barkeepers soap, that stuff will clean anything.
I'll try to remember to post before & after photos.
Thanks
