Hello all,
I have a 1965 16/17 whaler custom with a 2000 Nissan 50HP 2 stroke.
I would like to get a whole new external fuel system (tank, hoses, primer ball, etc). I would like a 10-15 gallon tank.
I know it is wise not to skimp on these items due to failures, do you guys have any favorite brands I should check out?
Any Recommendations on setting it up? Right now I have the tank under the drivers seat...

Moller and Attwood bulbs did not have lasting results for me so I switched to Mercury bulbs. Less that 3 years and I had to replace the bulbs. The Mercury bulbs are still going good but are only a year old. Quite a big difference in price and those are not the newer Mercury Bulbs with an even higher price tag. I was looking for a name brand replacement and the Murcury were available at the local Bass pro. I would have picked any other name brand if they were avilable at the time so I can't tell you which is best.

I always recommend the same brand of bulb as the engine manufacturer.
Mercury = Mercury Bulb
OMC = OMC Bulb
Most people usually visit there outboard dealer from time to time so it usually isn't difficult to get the correct brand of bulb.
I always have a brand new bulb in the toolbox of my truck just in case.

Thanks guys for your suggestions.
I went with Joe and just ordered a Nissan fuel line/primer ball assembly from the factory.
Now on to fuel tanks. I currently have a 19 gallon tank, but with a 50 hp and never a need for such range, plus I dont want the gas to sit for long, I feel the space could be used for more of my fishing stuff (I,E Tackle box). Do you think a 10-12 gal tank would be wise choice of gas tanks? I dont know what my MPG's is, but I cruise at around 4200 RPM/25 mph with a 50 hp two stroke. I imagine 10 -12 gallons would be plenty, but others might disagree....

It depends on the individuals preference here and their boating habits.
If you have to buy gas at a dock if you run out, you would probably pay higher prices. A larger tank(s) is the way to go in this case.
I had a 70 HP on my Montauk and had two 12 gallon tanks.
Some people prefer one tank.
What type of seat are you putting the fuel under?
If your 19 gallon is too much, what about two 6 gallon tanks?
I always preferred two tanks. One tank to get me where I wanted and the other tank to get me back. (In theory).....

I have a 50 hp johnson and a 12 gallon tank. This is plenty for us. The nice thing about Maine though is if I ever have to there are plenty of places to stop for fuel. When we go on a longer run say Bath to Boothbay I usually run at about 3600 rpm for 45 minutes and will not even use half a tank. I think you will be ok with a 12 gallon tank.

Regarding primer bulbs, I have found that not all are created equal. I agree with Joe in only buying the engine mfg's product, although either Mercury or BRP will work interchangeably from what i can tell.
Take 3/8" size, for instance. What I have discovered is that Moeller and other after market brands have fittings that are very small in inside diameter, restricting fuel flow. Conversely, the Evinrude/BRP and Mercury/Quicksilver bulbs have really large inside diameter, as the 3/8" spec would assume. I recently threw out a couple of brand new Moeller bulbs, sold as 3/8" but in reality only had a 1/4" I.D. I replaced them with the Mercury bulbs, about $12/ea.
I don't know about the Japanese brands, but for ANY engine, I would only recommend Mercury or BRP product. They are really excellent in fuel flow.
