I'm wondering if anyone has ever watched a Shuttle launch from the water? I'm just a couple hours up I95 from Cape Canaveral and I'm thinking about trying to take my kids to watch the last launch in July. I relize that the crowds will be huge but it would be worth it to give my 8 and 5 year old kids the memory. I'm looking for info on the best place to launch, easiest route, etc. Any info from folks in Florida or anyone who has ever made this trip would be greatly appreciated.

I took my boys to the launch today at Cape Canaveral. Regrettfully without the Whaler, as I just moved it up north last month.
Port Canaveral, in vicinity of the cruise ship terminal appeared to have multiple marinas at which to launch in the immediate area. The traffic was crazy with over a million observers for the final launch. I'd wait overnight to leave the area rather than sit towing a boat in traffic. In that regard, glad I did not have the boat today.
Regrettfully, I am on a tight work schedule that did not allow for a layover.
