I have been looking for an 8hp long shaft for my Montauk. Bumped into a 15hp Evinrude. It specs out at 77 lbs. I'm kind of concerned that it may be too much weight to hang on one side of the transom. I will move the battery forward to the console so that will be 25lbs or so moved away.
What do you guys think about 77lbs on a 17' 1985 Montauk with a same year 90hp Johnson?
Thank you for feedback.

Personally- I wouldn't. Even if the battery has been relocated from the stern.

It must be an older 15 evinrude as that is not that heavy. A lot of new 8 hp engines now weigh that much. If your really concerned about extra weight on the transom look for a used 1995-2003 2-stroke 8 or 9.8 Tohatsu or nissan that weigh about 60 lbs. I run one on both my 16 and 21 Whalers and I love them. I even bought one for a spare and also run one on my 13' to get to my mooring.
