All are good recommendations in the Newport/Costa Mesa area. I have personally used three of these resources on Shad's list and have had friends work with the others.

Yesterday I visited to FE Trailers in Lakeside California (about 15 miles north west of San Diego) to have some minor adjustments made to my trailer (used with my 1991 13ft Super Sport Limited).

The folks there were very competent...the work was done cheerfully...I jumped to the head of the line and left 4 hours later with a pretty hefty bill...but on the whole reasonable. I ended up with new springs, new rear lights, new bearings and new bunks. The boat was lifted off the trailer (see personal page) and then placed back with a careful adjustment so hopefully I am good for another 10 plus years.

Reading all the related posts on this site convinced me that while almost anything is doable (I could get the boat in the water and with enough planning do all the repairs next to the ramp)....in the end the hassle is pretty huge. With a 20 year old trailer even simple parts may no longer be standard. These guys have all the tools and their ability to pick from a vast assortment of spares seems a necessary advantage.

I agree with Shad Burke...

Steve Keene is pure genius. His work is amazing. He is the only person I would consider for boat(hull) repair or transducer installation. Not cheap but he does it right.

Gonzalo Foquet at West Coast Marine is the only person I would trust my engine with. He is Yamaha 5-star Gold. My 1995 2-stroke 200 is over 17 years old (Oct 1994-present). Only breakdown this whole time was a clogged oil sender in the external oil tank. Engine runs like new.

Shad...Great that you note Alcom Marine for Electronics...I started first grade with the owner Robert and we both went through Scouting together...both Eagles! Good Guy.

He is actually a rock star rag bagger but really knows the electronics biz!

I recently took my Evinrude to Advanced Marine in Costa Mesa. Cannot say enough about them. Fantastic service and reasonably priced.

Of course Schock boats in Newport Beach. Great people. They don't work on Evinrudes but have performed fiberglass work for me which was most impressive.

For Yamaha work, I would add Robbie Gordon at Boating Dynamics, San Diego as an excellent resource.

Good decent man, excellent and honest work. Hard to tell how reasonable the prices are......but I am satisfied that the job is done with decent explanation of what was needed.
