Doing my water pump and notice my exhaust housing came out. Should I change the exhaust housing gaskets at this time?
How important are these?
They are cheap enough and easy to change, I just am not sure if it is work it to change them out.

What kind of shape are the old ones in? Stiff, brittle, stretched, or cracked should be changed as you want a good seal for proper back pressure.

Good advice, I did not consider back pressure. I figure I'm in there anyway, for $20 it is better to be thorough.
Thanks

Who ever changed the water pump in my engine last got carried away with the exhaust gasket seal. He used some sort of glue on both sides of the seal and I had one heck of a time breaking the lower unit free. Half of the gasket remained up and in while the other half came out with the unit.
I don't believe there is any need to permatex this seal on either side.

The OMC service manual prescribes Adhesive M to the seal inner surfaces and Triple-Guard grease on the seal outer surface.

That sounds like the right plan Casey. I know I had one heck of a time getting mine to drop with the sealant the PO used when he did the job.
