Does anyone know where can I purchase the mats the fuel tanks sit on for an '89 Montauk?

The mats as far as I can tell are designed to fit the 12 gallon Tempo or Mirax metal tanks that most of us no longer use.
Do other tanks such as 12 gallon plastics fit the mats?
What is the standard practice regarding the mats when members go to a single 24 or 26 gallon under the RPS tank? It would seem as though the center separation between the two mats could cause an issue when going to a single large tank.

The plastic 12 gallon tanks fit as well as all the 6 gallon tanks.
A lot of guys with 24 and 26 gallon tanks simply trim off the lip on the inside edge of the mats to accommodate their single tanks.

That was my plan Tom but I might also install a wood frame to hold the 26 gallon tank in place and allow for new straps. Are the mats necessary under the plastic tanks if they are secured well?

No, not absolutley necessary, just a convenience for those large tanks. You could also use Dri-Dek under you 26 gallon tank. It will help protect the floor of the boat.

I think Gamalot is correct in saying that these Whaler tank mats are best recommended only for metal tanks, either 12 gallon or 6 gallon. The lip on the mats is not very high and only the metal tanks have the bottom configuaration to sit sqarely on the floor to be held in place by these mats
These mats keep the metal tanks in place with no restraint needed other than a little bungee tie down at the back side. Whaler put a strap eye in the boat floor for this purpose.
The red plastic Tempo (now Moeller is using the same mold) 12 gallon tanks fit size-wise, but have rounded and 45 degree mitered corners that lets them slide off the mats. A method of blocking or other tie down will have to be devised to hold them in place. And once that is done, you'd be bettor off with the dri-decking under the tanks.
Same for the large single tanks, unless they have very sharp bottom edges that the tank mats can hold.

Thank you! I am not yet to this stage on my project and it does appear I will need to slide my 26 gallon tank out some for refueling and this could be a rather heavy move when full not to mention very expensive considering the $4 + / gallon cost.

What tank do you have and is it strapped down? If it is the 24/26 gallon one, can it be filled while under the seat or do you have to pull it out?

I have two 12 gallon attwood tanks. They are plastic and I do not strap them down. I do't hot dog around a lot either.

A set of Tempo/new design Moeller 12 gallon tanks that I tried slid right off the mats. They have very rounded bottom edges and do not "catch" on the mat lips. Perhaps the Attwood tanks work better. I am not familiar with them.
