Hi Guys,
I have a question on installing a clutch dog on the lower unit of a 1982 75hp evinrude 3 cylinder. The shop manual tells me to put the side of the clutch dog that has prop end stamped into it on the prop side. Only problem is, the clutch I took out and the one I am putting in have no such stamp or engraving. The two sides are different, so I do think it matters how it is installed. I know I should have looked at it before I removed it. I would appreciate any help or advise anybody could give me. Thanks and Happy Boating. Ken

I would ask that question over on the Antique Outboard Motor site, http://www.aomci.org/

Although your Evinrude is not an antique, it is old and there are many members over there that are retired outboard mechanics or engineers. Help will be forthcoming.

Every factory clutch dog for midrange and larger motors that I've seen jas "prop end" stamped into one side.

Is the one you have a genuine factory part or an aftermarket brand? Factory parts have the part number stamped into them also.
