I ran across a good deal on a bowchock:

I'm going to put it on my 13 foot whaler. My late 70's vintage Montauk didn't come with a bowchock, so I bought one and put it on that boat. I remember that fit up was a problem with the rubrail. Has anyone else mounted a bowchock after the fact? Did you run into the problem with the rubrail? What should I put in the two holes where the screws/bolts go through, just some marine silicone?

I put a later model Bow chock light on my '66 model 13'. I had to create a pad to set under the light assembly to make sure it was even witht he rail. Also, you MUST drill through your hull and mount bolts through it to the bow chock because your anchor line will run between the light and the chocks. If you don't mount bolts tot he light, the first time you anchor and run the line on the chock, it WILL rip off.

I'm going to search for a picture of the pad / spacer I created for mine.

There's a picture of the spacer I made, probably similar to Cliff's, in my project album - I didn't want to cut up the rub rail, especially in such a visible spot, and in the end it looks great with the spacer.

Definitely mount it through the hull - it needs it or you'll just rip it right off the first time you use it.

I realize you have to drill through the hull for those two bolts to go through.

Does the spacer come out to be about 1/4"?

Mine was just about that - it'll be the same thickness as the height from the top of the gunwale to the top of the rubrail.
